Getting ready for a long awaited trip is both exhilarating and perplexing at the same time. That, “do I have everything?” question burning a hole in your mind into the wee hours of the morning before you take flight. That being so excited you can’t sleep feeling. Ah yes, there’s nothing quite like it!
My travels thus far have been standard 2 week trips. This year however, I’m embarking on some longer journeys. Italy will be my first longer trip at around 37 days and I will be utilizing the trains to travel from city to city.
I will be staying in Venice, La Garda Lake, Cinque Terre, Florence, and Rome. There are so many places in Italy that I’d love to visit, it was actually difficult to narrow it down. I prefer to spend time soaking up the local scene and culture rather than trying to cram in as many places as possible during my time. As a photographer, I love to explore and capture the nuances of a place when I travel.
However, when packing my camera and gear, I always feel a little apprehensive. Should I ever be asked to check my carry-on bag my answer would be an emphatic “no”. Sure I have insurance but I still wouldn’t want my camera and gear to be crushed? Plus the horror of getting stuck suddenly on a trip without my camera would be like losing an appendage. No sir, I will not check my carry-on.
